You will need to travel by ferry if you come from Singapore or Malaysia.
Batam is just 45 minutes from Singapore and approximately 90 minutes
from Johor Bahru. You will need to travel by plane if you wanna visit
Batam from Kuala Lumpur, from Senai Airport you can take a small plane
from there.
1. Batam Taxi

Getting around Batam is quite easy as Batam has some taxi companies providing their services. All the ferry terminals, the airport, all the major hotels & resorts, golf courses and shopping centers have taxi stands with taxis available at any times.
The taxis are modern vehicles with air-con and CB radio. Batam has introduced taxi meters i.e you can find it in Blue Bird Taxi. There will also black taxi which has no meters and no sign board as taxi recognition. If you prefer to take this type of taxi, you will need to be more careful and to check off the distance and the price when you do the bargaining with the driver.
Taxis can be used for short trips or hired for half or full days. Check with the taxi company or driver for details.
2. Batam Car Rental

Car Rental is available in Batam and there are many different types of vehicles to choose from to suit your taste or budget. You can rent with or without a driver. Drivers are local and experienced, so they can help you to get to where you want to go and offer advice about places to visit, etc.
If you prefer to drive yourself then you will require a valid driver’s licence that is still current in your country, and suitable for the vehicle you are renting.
3. Bus and Coach Tours

There are several tour operators offering some great bus tours around Batam. These can be sightseeing day trips, which take you to various locations across the island, and where you can experience some of the many attractions that Batam has to offer. The buses are fully air conditioned and modern, and are driven by experienced drivers.
4. Other transport to get around Batam:

The local transport such as Angkot operate in fixed directions and can be stopped on the street, just like a taxi. Make sure that the bus is going towards your direction before you take it. Fare start at Rp. 3000

Damri buses are the cheapest way of getting around, though unreliable from a frequency point of view. Fares start at Rp.5000

Ojek is another transport. You will sit at the motorcycle. Bargain the price before you get on. It is usually around Rp. 10000 to Rp. 50000 for short distance.
